Frequently asked questions
Is this the real jq?+
Yes. It runs jq 1.8.2, the official jq program, compiled to WebAssembly so it runs inside your browser. Filters, functions and error messages behave exactly as they do on the command line.
How do I get plain text instead of JSON strings?+
Turn on Raw output, the same as jq -r. Strings print without quotes, which is what you want for lists of emails or for @csv and @tsv lines.
Can I process newline-delimited JSON (NDJSON / JSON Lines)?+
Yes. Paste one JSON value per line and the filter runs on each. Turn on Slurp (jq -s) to read them all into one array first, for example to count or group them.
What happens if my filter never ends?+
jq runs in a background worker. If a filter keeps going (for example range(1e10) or repeat without a limit), it is stopped after a few seconds and the page stays responsive.
Is my JSON uploaded?+
No. jq runs in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere, and it keeps working offline. Large numbers such as 64-bit IDs stay exact. Your last document and filter are remembered on this device only; Clear removes them.
