JSON to YAML, without surprises
Converters often change your data quietly. This one keeps values exact and tells you whenever something can’t be carried over.
- Safe for every parser
- Ambiguous values are quoted, avoiding the “Norway problem” where NO becomes false.
- Readable output
- Block style, 2 or 4 space indent, multi-line strings as | blocks, no line wrapping.
- Exact numbers
- 64-bit IDs and big integers are never rounded.
- Private & free
- Runs in your browser — config files with secrets never leave your computer.
- Paste, drop or open
- Drop a .json file anywhere on the input, or switch direction with one click.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some strings like "yes" or "on" quoted?+
Older YAML parsers (YAML 1.1 — used by PyYAML, Ruby and many CI tools) read yes, no, on, off and numbers with leading zeros as booleans or octal numbers. CurlyJSON quotes them so your strings stay strings everywhere.
Will big numbers survive?+
Yes. Integers larger than JavaScript can hold, like 64-bit IDs, are written exactly as they appear in your JSON.
How are multi-line strings written?+
As YAML block scalars (|), so they are easy to read and edit — not as one long line full of \n.
Is my data uploaded?+
No. Conversion runs in your browser.
